Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Two studies on toxicity to microorganisms are available. In the key study (Ciba-Geigy 1988), sewage sludge micro-organisms were exposed for 3h to the test item at a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L in accordance with OECD 209. The IC50 value based on respiration rate was >100 mg/L. As no effects were observed the NOEC is expected to be at least 100 mg/L.

In a supporting study according to OECD guideline 209 (RCC 1997) with O,O,O- triphenyl thiophosphate in a lower purity of > 25%, respiration of domestic activated sludge was not inhibited at a test item concentration of 320 mg/L (NOEC) after 3h of exposure, the IC50 is > 1000 mg/L.
