Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
Henry's law constant
Type of information:
calculation (if not (Q)SAR)
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
accepted calculation method
Justification for type of information:
According to the technical guidance document part II chapter 2.3.5.2 of the directive 98/8/EC, the transfer of a substance from the aqueous phase to the gas phase is estimated by means of its Henry's Law constant. If the value is not available in the input data set, the required Henry's Law constant can be estimated from the ratio of the vapor pressure to the water solubility.
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
calculation based on vapour pressure (VP), molecular weight (MOLW) and water solubility (SOL)
GLP compliance:
no
H:
281 Pa m³/mol
Temp.:
25 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Input data: Water solubility: (Episuite 4.00, WSKOWWIN v1.41 = 555 mg/L; Vapour pressure: BASF AG 1993 = 7 hPa at 18.5°C = 1097 Pa at 25°C)
Conclusions:
From the water surface, tert-Butyl acrylate will rapidly evaporate into the atmosphere.

Description of key information

From the water surface, tert-Butyl methacrylate will rapidly evaporate into the atmosphere.
Henry's Law constant at 25 °C = 34.4 Pa*m3/mol

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Henry's law constant (H) (in Pa m³/mol):
281
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

Henry's Law Constant was calculated according to TGD using the calculated Water solubility of 555 mg/L as estimated by SRC WSKOWWIN v1.41 and the measured vapour pressure of 7hPa at 18.5°C = 1097 Pa at 25°C (BASF SE, 2010). The constant was calculated to be 281 Pa*m3/mol at 25 °C indicating rapid evaporation of tert-butyl acrylate from the water surface into the atmosphere.
