Total heat of decomposition for DEAC is 366 J/g. The onset temperature of the exothermal effect is 328 °C. This result indicates a total heat of decomposition < 500 J/g. As the Al content of EADC is lower than DEAC and the correlation (based on known data) between total heat of decomposition and % Al in pure aluminum alkyls (decreasing total heat of decomposition with decreasing Al content), we can conclude that EADC is not explosive according to the criteria of explosivity mentioned in the CLP regulation No.1272/2008.

In addition, AkzoNobel has performed CHETAH calculations and EADC gave a lower J/g than DEAC (440 vs 486). These further tests support the presumption that the total heat of decomposition of EADC is in fact < 500 J/g.

Based on read-across analyses with diethylaluminiumchloride (CAS No 96-10-6), we were able to conclude that EADC is a non explosive substance. This conclusion is based on the Al% in EADC which is lower than DEAC Al content and the correlation that the total heat of decomposition is decreasing with the Al content.
