Description of key information

The test item EKALAND MITC W (methyl isothiocyanate) was not considered to have explosive properties in our experimental conditions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

In 2010, the explosiveness of EKALAND MITC W (methyl isothiocyanate) in compliance with Commission Directive 92/69/EEC, Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 EC A14 method (2008) was conducted on behalf of MLPC in 2010. The following results are found:

Mechanical sensitivity (shock)

Six negative assays were recorded: No mechanical sensitivity was noted with the test item.

Heat sensitivity (flame test)

Six negative assays were recorded with a tube of 2-mm diameter and with a tube of 6-mm diameter: No heat sensitivity was noted with the test item.

Friction

As the test item has a melting point in the range 30 -35°C, the friction test was not carried out.

The test item was not considered to have explosive properties in our experimental conditions.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the measure of explosiveness made in compliance with Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 EC A14 method (2008) was conducted on behalf of MLPC in 2010, MITC (methyl isothiocyanate) is not considered to have explosive properties in our experimental conditions.
