Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure water reactivity is not to be expected.
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected.
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI testing does not appear scientifically necessary. The flammability of liquids is determined on basis of their flashpoint (in combination with their boiling point), their ability to emit flammable gases upon contact with water and their pyrophoricity. The molecular structure of the substance does not contain groups that indicate potential reactivity with water or pyrophoric properties. The flashpoint is already reported, indicating that the substance is a highly flammable liquid (category 2).

Description of key information

In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI testing does not appear scientifically necessary. The flammability of liquids is determined on basis of their flashpoint (in combination with their boiling point), their ability to emit flammable gases upon contact with water and their pyrophoricity. The molecular structure of the substance does not contain groups that indicate potential reactivity with water or pyrophoric properties. Furthermore, experience in use has shown that under conditions where the substance is in contact with water, no ignition and/or liberation of flammable gases is observed. In addition, in the daily use and handling of the substance during which continuous exposure to air can occur, no spontaneous ignition is observed.

The flashpoint (-2°C) and boiling point (79.8°C) is already reported, indicating that the substance is a highly flammable liquid (category 2).

Additional information

Flammability (solids)

In accordance with REACH Annex XI, this study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid and hence testing is not technically feasible.

Pyrophoricity

In accordance with point 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for pyrophoric properties. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as experience in use and experience of handling the substance indicates that it does not possess pyrophoric properties.

Flammability in contact with water

In accordance with point 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for substances or mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as experience in use and experience of handling the substance indicates that it does not emit flammable gases in contact with water.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance requires classification as a highly flammable liquid (category 2) and is assigned the signal word "Danger" and the Hazard statement "H225: Highly flammable liquid and vapour".
