Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Seven studies are available. In the key study (Migchielsen, 2010) with Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata the EC50 (72 h) was >33.1 mg/L and EC10 (72h) was 3.4 mg/L. The test protocol was based on OECD 201. In the supporting studies with exposure times of 48 hours similar EC50 values were found: 83.29 mg/L (Lee Po Yi , 2008), >10 mg/L (Stratton, 1982), where the EC50 (48 h) was reported to be > 10 ppm. The results were confirmed In the supporting study (Bringmann, 1980), where the minimum inhibitory concentration (20 h) was reported to be 31 mg/L. A recent study (Kamaya 2005) indicates a much higher EC50(72h) value of 156 mg/L, but it is not clear whether this concentration is based on nominal or measured concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
33.1 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
3.4 mg/L

Additional information

Seven studies are available. In the key study (Migchielsen, 2010) with Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata the EC50 (72 h) was >33.1 mg/L, EC10 (72h) was 3.4 mg/L. The test protocol was based on OECD 201. In this study the measured concentration decreased significantly during the test period. In the supporting studies with exposure times of 48 hours similar EC50 values were found: 83.29 mg/L (Lee Po Yi , 2009), >10 mg/L (Stratton, 1982), where the EC50 (48 h) was reported to be > 10 ppm.
