First-aid measures

The substance is water soluble and considered potentially irritant to skin and eyes and harmful if swallowed
If swallowed, rinse mouth and drink 500 ml water. If feeling unwell, or if experiencing mood changes, consult a doctor
If on skin, wash with plenty of water.
If in eyes rinse with plenty of water. If discomfort persists, seek medical advice.

General advise for medical personnel : treat local irritation symptomatically. If ingested, lithium can cause mood changes (medical use as anti-depressent)

Accidental release measures

Small spills (< 1 kg) sweep up and collect into suitable containers for disposal. Rinse area with water, avoiding run-off into water courses.
Large spills (> 1 kg) collect into suitable container and dispose of as hazardous chemical waste. Keep non-essential staff away from spill and wear personal protective equipment including skin and eye protection. Avoid generation of dust and ensure good level of ventilation (3 - 5 exchanges per hour). Rinse area with water and unless connected to foul drains, collect run-off for chemical waste disposal.

Avoid generation of dust. Otherwise no specific engineering controls for handling.
