D3 hydrolyses with a hydrolysis half-life of less than 12 hours. Therefore, the environmental hazard assessment, including sediment and soil compartments due to water and moisture being present, is based on the properties of the silanol hydrolysis products in accordance with REACH guidance for Chemical Safety Assessment (Chapter R16). Quantitative environmental risk assessment is based on the intermediate and final hydrolysis products, 1,1,3,3,5,5-hexamethyltrisiloxane-1,5-diol (CAS 3663-50-1; EC No. 222-920-3; L3-diol) and dimethylsilanediol (DMSD, CAS 1066-42-8; EC No. 213-915-7) respectively (refer to Section 6).
DMSD is the final product of hydrolysis reactions under conditions of a hydrolysis laboratory study, however, other biotic or abiotic reactions may occur over longer time-scales in the environment.
