First-aid measures

General advice: Remove from exposure, lie down. Immediately remove contaminated clothing. If danger of loss of consciousness, place patient in recovery position and transport accordingly. Apply artificial respiration if necessary. First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety.
Eye contact: Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.
Skin contact: Wash off immediately with plenty of water. Wash contaminated clothing before re-use. Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist.
Inhalation: Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention
Ingestion: Rinse mouth immediately and then drink plenty of water, seek medical attention.
Symptoms: Tachycardia, Mouth drynesses, blurred vision

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Use extinguishing measures to suit surroundings., Water, Foam, carbon dioxide, Dry chemical
Hazards during fire-fighting: In case of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes. Can be released in case of fire:, nitrogen oxides, Hydrogen
bromide (HBr), Carbon oxides
Protective equipment for fire-fighting: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing.
Further information: Collect separately contaminated extinguishing water, do not allow to reach sewage or effluent systems. Dispose of fire debris and contaminated extinguishing water in accordance with official regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions : Wear protective equipment. Keep unprotected persons away. Avoid creating dust. Ensure adequate ventilation.
Environmental precautions : Do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater.
Methods for cleaning-up or taking-up: Cleaning operations should be carried out only while wearing breathing apparatus.
For large amounts: Dampen, pick up, mechanically and dispose of. Avoid raising dust.
For residues: Use approved industrial vacuum cleaner for removal. Pack in tightly closed containers for disposal.
Additional information : Damp down dust with water spray jet.

Handling and storage

(-)-Scopolaminmethylbromid is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at each manufacturing site.
(-)-Scopolaminmethylbromid is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions as defined under REACH Article 18(4) throughout its life cycle.
Specifically the substance is rigorously contained by technical means during its whole lifecycle; procedural and control technologies are used to minimise emissions and any resulting exposures; only properly trained and authorised personnel handle the substance; special procedures such as purging and washing are applied during cleaning and maintenance works, in cases of accident and where waste is generated, procedural and/or control technologies are used to minimise emissions and the resulting exposures; and substance-handling procedures are well documented and strictly supervised by the site operator.

Stability and reactivity

Maximum handling temperature for safety reasons (TmaxSi) : when a venting system is used ca.100 °C 24 hrs.

Hazardous reactions: Accumulation of fine dust may entail the risk of a dust explosion in the presence of air.

Disposal considerations

Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
