Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The boiling point of (Z)-octadec-9-enol is 333°C at 1013 hPa.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
333 °C

Additional information

There are several boiling point results from handbooks or collections of reliable data which have been subject to peer review and in which the original sources are traceable. Boiling point values of 333°C at 1013 hPa, 195°C at 10.7 hPa (8 mmHg), 182 -184°C at 2.0 hPa (1.5 mmHg) and 207°C at 20.0 hPa (15 mmHg) were reported for the substance. The results were considered to be reliable and the boiling report value reported at standard atmospheric pressure was selected as the key study.

Discussion of trends in the Category of C6-24 linear and essentially-linear aliphatic alcohols:

As chain length increases, boiling point increases. This is because molecular weight is higher and intermolecular forces in the substance are all higher. There is some evidence for decomposition before boiling for the longest chain alcohols in this group.
