Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
No terrestrial toxicity data is available for the test substance. The PECsoil and PNECsoil were estimated. A PNECsoil was derived using the equilibrium partitioning Method (EPM). A PECsoil was calculated, assuming realistic concentrations of butyl benzoate in a pesticide formulation.
The PECsoil was well below the PNECsoil (PECsoil/PNECsoil << 1). Safety factors for the terrestrial environment are generous, no additional data should be required.
Butyl benzoate is readily biodegradable, has a low potential for bioaccumulation (Log Kow = 3.3, Log BCF 2.2; per dossier) and is rapidly metabolized to innocuous substances (i.e., benzoic acid and corresponding alcohol, butanol) and excreted within 24 hours (Becker et al., 2012), and does not have a high potential to adsorb to soil (Log Koc 2.1 per dossier). Therefore, the equilibrium partitioning method has been used to assess the hazard to soil organisms as allowed according to Column 2 'Specific Rules for Adaptation' in Annex IX.
