Description of key information

This GLP study investigates the inhibitory effect of Diphenyl sulphone on the respiration rate of an activated sludge. The method used in the study is OECD test guideline 209 Activated sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test”. The EC50 (3h) of reference item 3,5-dichlorophenol was determined as 25.6363 mg/l. The EC50 (3h) of Diphenyl sulphone (EC 204-853-1) was determined as 0.1799 g/l.

Additional information

This GLP study investigates the inhibitory effect of Diphenyl sulphone on the respiration rate of an activated sludge (field collected from Sri Venkateswara Sugar Mill, Palayasivaram, Kancheepuram District, Tamil Nadu). The method used in the study is described in the OECD guideline for testing of chemicals 209 ” Activated sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test”. The EC50 (3h) of reference item 3,5-dichlorophenol was determined as 25.6363 mg/L.

A concentration series using of the test substance was tested: The EC50 (3h) of Diphenyl sulphone was determined as 0.1799 g/L. Validity criteria were met: the respiration rates of two controls were within 15% of each other and EC50 for the reference substance was within the normal range (5- 30 mg/l).

The EC50 (3h) of Diphenyl sulphone (EC 204-853-1) was determined as 0.1799 g/L (nominal).
