Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

After inhalation: Move to fresh air. If symptoms persist get medical advice/attention.

After skin contact: Wash skin with water and soap, remove contaminated clothing. In case of irritation get medical attention.

After eye contact: Rinse cautiously with tempered water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persist get medical advice/attention.

After swallowing: Rinse mouth with water and drink water. If large amount has been ingested get medical advice/attention.

Main symptoms: Shortness of breath

Special hazard: Lung oedema

Notes to physician: Treat symptomatically. In case of lung irritation, first treatment with cortisone spray. Control of circulatory system. Control of kidney function. Control of electrolyte metabolism.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing agents: Alcohol resistent foam, CO2 or powder. Fight larger fires with alcohol resistant foam.

Unsuitable extinguishing agents: Water with full jet.

Protective equipment: Wear fully protective suit and respiratory protective device.

Additional information: Collect contamined fire fighting water separately. It must not enter the sewage system. Cool endagered receptacles with water spray.

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, its combustion products, or released gases

Under conditions giving incomplete combustion, hazardous gases produced may consist of:

carbon monoxide (CO)

carbon dioxide (CO2)

Combustion gases of organic materials must in principle be graded as inhalation poisons

Vapour is heavier than air and can travel considerable distance to a source of ignition and flashback

Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air

Risk of receptacle bursting

Accidental release measures

Important: Remove all ignition sources. Do not smoke.

Handle only under strictly controlled conditions in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Art. 18 (4).

In case of major spill contact rescue services.

Person-related safety precautions: Keep unprotected persons away. Keep people away and stay on the upwind side.

For emergency responders:  Wear fully protective suit. Wear full face mask with filter for organic substances.

Measures for environmental protection: Do not allow to enter sewers/surface or ground water. Inform respective authorities in case of seepage into water course or sewage system.

Measures for cleaning/collecting: Remove all ignition sources. Ensure adequate ventilation. Use non-sparking tools and ex-proof equipment. Small spill, absorb with liquid-binding material (sand, diatomite, inert binders) and shovel up. DO NOT use combustible materials such as sawdust. Large spill, collect by pumping. Clean area with water and detergent.

Handling and storage

Handle only under strictly controlled conditions in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Art. 18 (4).

Comply with Directive 94/9/EC concerning equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and, Directive 1999/92/EC regarding minimum requirements for improving the safety and health protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres.

Storage: Store under inert atmosphere, e.g. nitrogen pad.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Handle only under strictly controlled conditions in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Art. 18 (4).

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection:

Wear respiratory protection if ventilation is inadequate. Gas filter for gases/vapours of organic compounds (boiling point <65 °C, f.e. EN 14387 Type AX)

Hand protection:

Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374)

Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (Recommended: Protective index 6, corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374): butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.

Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in

practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.

Eye protection:

Safety glasses with side-shields (frame goggles) (e.g. EN 166)

Body protection:

Body protection must be chosen depending on activity and possible exposure, e.g. apron, protecting boots, chemical-protection suit (according to EN 14605 in case of splashes or EN ISO 13982 in case of dust).

General safety and hygiene measures:

Avoid inhalation of vapour. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Wearing of closed work clothing is required additionally to the stated personal protection equipment.

Stability and reactivity

Dangerous reactions: May produce violent reactions with bases and numerous organic substances including alcohols, amines, oxidizing agents and acids

Dangerous decomposition products: No dangerous decomposition products known.

Disposal considerations

Waste of pure substance is classified as hazardous waste. Recommended treatment method is incineration.
