Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

2-phenoxyethanol in water was extrapolated to have a half-life of 5120 days.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The photodegradation in water of 2-phenoxyethanol was studied using a light spectrum between 298 and 400 nm (double beam spectrometer) and corresponding to a 47.5°C midsummer day (The Dow Chemical Company, 2006) following an adaption of EPA OPPTS 835.2210. The maximal direct photolysis rate at the water surface was calculated as 0.0043 per day, the overall elimination of 2 -phenoxyethanol was 0.3%, the half-life 5120 days. Direct photolysis of phenoxyethanol can be considered as negligible in surface water systems.
