Additional information

Benzyl benzoate was found to be readily biodegradable in an EU method C4 -D test, with 94% degradation achieved in 28 days. This indicates that the substance will be rapidly degraded in the environment and will not persist.

An OECD 121 adsorption study found that benzyl benzoate has a log Koc of 3.8. Based on this information, the substance is likely to adsorb strongly to organic carbon and will be of low mobility in soils and sediment.

A QSAR estimation of the bioconcentration factor was made using an experimental log Kow. The log BCF was estimated to be 2.286 (BCF = 193.4). This indicates that no significant bioaccumulation will occur in the environment.

Hydrolysis testing was not considered necessary for the substance, as it is readily biodegradable.
