Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

oral - LD50 male = 6500 mg/kg bw - Smyth et al. 1969
inhalation/whole body - no mortality observed - Smyth et al. 1969
dermal - LD50 male = 6330 mg/kg bw - Smyth et al. 1969

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In an acute oral toxicity study (Smyth et al. 1969), where only limited data is provided, groups of 5 male Carworth-Wistar rats were given a single oral dose of 3-Aminopropoxy-2-ethoxy ethanol and observed for 14 days. Based upon mortalities observed during the 14 day period the most probable LD50value and its fiducial range are estimated by the method of Thompson using tables of Weil:

Oral LD50 males = 6500 mg/kg bw (4950 - 8530)

In the same study 6 male or female albino rats were exposed by inhalation route to 3-Aminopropoxy-2-ethoxy for 8 hours to whole body. Animals then were observed for 14 days. None of the exposed animals died.

Additionally, acute dermal toxicity was tested similar to the one day cuff method by Draize. Groups of 4 immobilized male albino New Zealand rabbits were dermally exposed to the test substance for 24 hours. Animals then were observed for 14 days. Based upon mortalities observed during the 14 day period the most probable LD50value and its fiducial range are estimated by the method of Thompson using tables of Weil:

Dermal LD50Males =  6330  mg/kg bw (4514 - 8902)

3-Aminopropoxy-2-ethoxy ethanol is virtually non-toxicity based on the oral and dermal LD50values in males and doesn't present an acute hazard by inhalation.

Justification for classification or non-classification

DSD and CLP classification are not warranted for 3-Aminopropoxy-2-ethoxy ethanol.
