Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A TTC (16h) (equivalent to an EC3-value) of 200 mg/L was measured for growth inhibition effects on Pseudomonas putida (Bringmann & Kühn, 1976).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
200 mg/L

Additional information

The effect of isobutyl acetate on Pseudomonas putida was tested in a growth inhibition test with a duration of 16 h. In this static freshwater test a toxicity threshold concentration (TTC), equivalent to an EC3, of 200 mg/L was observed (Bringmann & Kühn, 1976).

This result is supported by two other studies (Hüls, 1988 and Krebs, 1992):

The toxicity of isobutyl acetate to microorganisms was investigated in an oxygen consumption test that was conducted according to a German national guideline (DIN 38 412 - L 27) using Pseudomonas putida. The EC10-value (487 mg/L) and the EC50-value (1886 mg/L) do not indicate substantial toxicity to microorganisms (Hüls, 1988).

The effect of isobutyl acetate was tested in a 24 -h depletion test with heterotrophic bacteria (non-adapted). The resulting EC10 (24 h) was > 1000 mg/L (Krebs, 1991).
