Reference
Endpoint:
boiling point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
February 2012
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods with acceptable restrictions
Remarks:
This study was considered as reliable with restrictions because it was not conducted under GLP and there are some lack of details in the study report.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to other study
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 103 (Boiling point/boiling range)
Deviations:
not specified
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.2 (Boiling Temperature)
Deviations:
not specified
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
method according to Siwoloboff
Key result
Boiling pt.:
496 K
Atm. press.:
985 hPa
Decomposition:
no

Two experiments were performed at 985 hPa:

- boiling point measured in the first experiment: 497 K (224°C)

- boiling point measured in the second experiment: 495 K (222°C)

- mean: 496 K (223°C)

The two results showed a difference of 1 K (within the required limit of 2 K max).

For high boiling temperatures, the mean measurement error with this method is +/- 5 K. Therefore the boiling temperature at standard pressure was not calculated with the Sidney Young equation, as the possible correction of +/- 1.5 K is lower than the measurement error.

Conclusions:
The boiling temperature range of the test item at 985 hPa was stated as 496 K +/- 5 K (223°C +/- 5°C).
Executive summary:

The boiling point was measured twice according to Siwoloboff's method. The results were 224°C and 222°C at 985 hPa (+/- 5°C).

From these results, the boiling temperature range at 985 hPa was stated as 223°C +/- 5°C.

No observations were made which might cause doubts on the validity of the study outcome. Therefore, the result of the study is considered as valid.

Description of key information

The boiling point was determined according to Siwoloboff's method.
The boiling temperature range of nerol is 223°C +/- 5°C at 985 hPa.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
491 K

Additional information

Key study conducted according to OECD 103 and EU A.2 guidelines. The result is scientifically acceptable but not obtained under GLP.

Therefore a reliability of 2 (reliable with restrictions) was assigned and the obtained value is used as key value for the chemical safety assessment.
