Additional information

The toxicity of bis(2 -ethylhexyl)amine (CAS 106-20-7) to aquatic invertebrates was tested in a guideline study conducted according to EU method C.2 using Daphnia magna as test organism; Tween 80 was used as a solvent. The 48-h EC50 was reported to be 2.2 mg/L. The EC50 was determined using non-neutralised samples (BASF AG 1989, 1/0500/2/89-0500/89).

 

Supporting information on the toxicity to Daphnids are available from a static non-GLP screening test performed following to OECD 202. The screening test was conducted in order to evaluate the potential for toxicity mitigation by natural organic carbon simulated with humic acid. One experiment was performed without addition of humic acid, while two others were performed with addition of humic acid (Na salt) at concentrations of 3 and 10 mg/L. In absence of humic acid, a 48-h EC50 of 2.95 mg/L was determined while in the experiment with addition of 3 mg/L humic acid, the EC50 was 2.54 mg/L and in the experiment with 10 mg/L the EC50 was 2.24 mg/L, indicating that the addition of 3 mg/L and 10 mg/L humic acid had no mitigating effect on daphnia immobilisation (BASF SE, 2016, 85E0454/11E202). However, due to considerable restrictions (e.g. no analytical test item concentration verification; test concentration spacing factor exceeds the maximum value recommended by the guideline; minimum number of recommended test concentrations not reached), the study is disregarded in terms of chemical safety assessment.

 

In conclusion, the substance is assessed to be acutely toxic to aquatic invertebrates.
