Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Alga growth inhibition test (OECD Guideline 201): EC50 72h (growth rate) > 5 mg/L

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
5 mg/L

Additional information

The effect of Di-n-butylfumarate was tested on the growth of fresh water single cell green algaPseudokirchneriella subcapitata.Based on the results of the solubility test, the test was carried out up to a maximum of 5 mg/L (concentration equal to the limit of solubility as per OECD 201). The test was conducted using acetone as an solubilising agent with a final concentration of 100 µL/L medium. The alga were exposed to the test item at the nominal concentrations of 0.06, 0.19, 0.6, 1.7 and 5 mg/L (factor of approximately 3) along with a negative control, vehicle control and a positive control. The cell growth was measured at 24, 48 and 72 hours after the initiation of the test.

The EC values were not calculated for inhibition of growth rate as the percent growth inhibition were not more than 50 % in any of the tested concentrations and hence ErC50value is considered more than 5 mg/L.

The EC values calculated for yield on the basis of the nominal concentration of the test item are: EyC50(72h) = 1.34 mg/L; EyC20(72h) = 0.38 mg/l and EyC10(72h) = 0.2 mg/L.
