Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A study was carried out to determine the effect of phenylethyl acetate on the respiration of activated sewage sludge. The study was carried out according to OECD 209. Activated sewage sludge was exposed to an aqueous dispersion of phenylethyl acetate at concentrations of 10, 100, and 1000 mg/l (3 replicates at 1000 mg/l) for a period of 3 hours. Test temperature was 20 ± 2oC. Synthetic sewage was added as a respiratory substrate. The rate of respiration was determined after 3 hours exposure and compared to data from the control. Control solutions with inoculum and a reference substance, 3,5 -dichlorophenol, were used for validation purposes.

The 3-hour EC50value was found to be greater than 1000 mg/l. The 3-hour no observed effect concentration (NOEC) was found to be 100 mg/l. The reference item gave a 3 -hour EC50 of 13 mg/l with 95% confidence limits of 10 -17 mg/l.

This study was carried out as a range-finder but no further testing was deemed necessary as the EC50was found to be >1000 mg/l.
