Description of key information
For MBS a 96-hour LC50 of 0.31 mg/l was determined with a flow-through system with Oncorhynchus mykiss (Monsanto 1981).

Although the fish were fed daily the LC50-value of this key study was considered to be valid since the determination was performed in a flow-through system. The bioavailability was given due to the concentrations were analytically confirmed.
A hydrolysis half-life time of MBS of ca. 24 h was observed in deionised and environmental water buffered at pH 7.0. Benzothiazole-2-thiole (MBT) and benzothoazole (BT) as hydrolysis products are considered here to support the assessment of MBS. The observed effects are most probably a combined effect of the parent substance and the hydrolysis products.
