Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

For liquids, the flash point is considered as the most important value to define the ease of ignition. Furthermore, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are to be considered in this endpoint. However, based on the chemical structure of the test substance and on experience in the handling and use of the substance, neither pyrophoric reactions nor flammability in contact with water are expected. Therefore, further testing was not deemed required.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Two independent studies are available on the flash point of 44-PD (CAS nr 101-96-2). Both studies give similar results. In the fire protection guide the flash point is 132 °C and in the study by Flexsys the flash point is estimated to be between 137 and 148 °C. Therefore the flashpoint is estimated to be > 132 and < 148 °C (at atmospheric pressure).

According to the criteria described in section 2.2.5 of Annex VI to the DSD, liquids that have a flash point > 21°C but 55°C are identified as flammable. Based on the determined flash of the substance it can be concluded that the substance is not flammable.

For the classification according to Regulation 1272/2008 (CLP), the threshold value for classification as flammable liquid is situated at 60°C. Also in this case it can thus be concluded that the test substance is not to be classified as flammable liquid.
