Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In a reliable test (reliability category 1) for acute fish toxicity of methyl-p-toluate using Danio rerio the following effect concentrations were determined:
LC0 (96h): 12.5 mg/L (nominal)
LC50 (96h): 20.5 mg/L (nominal)
LC100 (96h): 50 mg/L (nominal)

Additional information

In a reliable test (reliability category 1) for acute fish toxicity of methyl-p-toluate using Danio rerio the following effect concentrations were determined:

LC0 (96h): 12.5 mg/L (nominal)

LC50 (96h): 20.5 mg/L (nominal)

LC100 (96h): 50 mg/L (nominal)

Alterations of appearance and behaviour were observed between 12.5 and 100 mg/L in a dose dependent manner. Alterations of appearance and behaviour observed at 10 mg/L reversed after 72 hours and fish were without symptoms afterwards. No effects were observed at 1 mg/L.

In a non-reliable study (short exposure time, insufficient documentation), the fish LC50 for methyl-p-toluate was determined in a 24 hour exposure study using Oryzias latipes (10 fish per concentration group, vehicle: DMSO). Based on nominal concentrations, the LC50 (24h) was determined as 78.8 mg/L.
