Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

According to non-reliable data, methyl-p-toluate is not bioaccumulative (not B) in fish exposed via the water phase. The same conclusion would be reached by judging from log Kow (2.7) on bioconcentration potential.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
93.3 dimensionless

Additional information

In an unreliable study on aquatic bioconcentration of methyl-p-toluate a BCF of 93.3 was determined in Oryzias latipes (12 hours exposure time, 1 mg/L nominal concentration, steady state assumption). Whether steady state was reached within the short exposure period was not demonstrated in this study. Judging from this result, the submission substance would be regarded as not bioaccumulative (not B). The same conclusion would be reached by judging from log Kow (2.7) on bioconcentration potential.
