Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The half-life period of 5-nitro-o-anisidine in water is estimated to be 912 h (38 days) while in sediment it is 8160 h (340 days).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life in freshwater:
912 h
at the temperature of:
25 °C
Half-life in freshwater sediment:
8 160 h
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

Based on the Level III Fugacity Model, the half-life period of 5 -nitro-o-anisidine in water is estimated to be 38 days, while in sediment it is 340 days. Based on this value, it is concluded that 5 -nitro-o-anisidine is biodegradable in water only. Also from the above halflifes it can be concluded that 5 -nitro-o-anisidine is not persistent in water and persistent in sediment medium. However, since there is no diffusion of the substance in the sediment as evident from the reported data (0% in sediment) and hence persistence in the sediment compartment is not likely to be critical.
