Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
activated sludge respiration inhibition testing
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is found to be readily biodegradable and the applied test concentrations are in the range of concentrations that can be expected in the influent of a sewage treatment plant
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The tested concentration is 100 mg/L in a biodegradation screening study and the substance was found to be completely biodegraded (> 98 %) based on DOC and test material analysis. BOD-Analysis showed a biodegradation result of 68 - 74 %.
The tested concentration is assumed to be well above the concentrations expected in the influent of sewage treatment plants. Assuming a water discharge to be treated of 150 L per person and day and a total amount of 10000 persons covered by one sewage treatment plant, 1.5 * 10E06 L of water are treated.
Calculating the amount of substance with the tested concentration for one year, it follows: 1.5 * 10E06 * 100 mg/L * 365 days = 54 tpa.
As the substance is used wide dispersively, the total tonnage will not be at one site, therefore the concentration in the influent of sewage treatment plants will be lower than the tested concentration.
