Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No studies are available for the toxicity of N-lauroylsarcosine (CAS 97-78-9) towards microorganisms. Therefore, data from the corresponding salt, sodium N-lauroysarcosinate (CAS 137-16-6), are used as read across. This read-across approach is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Grouping of substance and read across approach as is explained within the analogue justification in section 13. Since dissociation of the sodium salt under environmental conditions yields the same ionic species as dissociation of the acidic form of the substance, this read across can be considered as justified.

The toxicity of the read-across substance Sodium N-lauroysarcosinate (CAS 137-16-6) to microorganisms was investigated in one study according to OECD 209 and GLP (Paulus, 2005). Domestic activated sludge was used in the test which included a valid reference control. The maximum inhibition of microbial respiration was 18% at 1000 mg/L which was the highest concentration tested. Therefore the EC50 (3 h) was reported to be > 1000 mg/L.

Based on the available result from one structurally related read-across substance (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5.) which is characterized by a comparable structure, it can be concluded that N-lauroylsarcosine (CAS 97-78-9) will show similar results.
