The OECD harmonized ring method (OECD TG 115) was used for the determination of the surface tension of Lactic acid 93% aq. The surface tension of a test solution at a concentration of 1 g/L and at 20 °C was 70.7 mN/m. According to this, the test substance is considered as not surface active.

Description of key information

Dilactide is a mixture of D-lactide and L-lactide and all lactides undergo rapid hydrolysis, forming lactic acid. Lactic acid is not surface active, with a surface tension of 70.7 mN/m as shown in a GLP study conducted according to OECD TG 115. In addition and in accordance with REACH Regulation 1907/2006 Annex VII, section 7.6 a study with the target substance does not need to be conducted as surface activity is not a desired property.
