First-aid measures

General advice

Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately.

Inhalation

Remove to fresh air. Give oxygen. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

Skin contact

Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician immediately.

Eye contact

Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and consult a physician.

Ingestion

In the case of spontaneous vomiting, hold person's head low to prevent inhalation into the wind-pipe. Rinse mouth with water. If conscious, drink plenty of water. Call a physician immediately.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Lungs: Depending on the concentration coughing, asthmatic reaction, glottis edema, pulmonary edema.

Eyes: Depending on the concentration conjunctivitis to severe chemical burn of the cor-nea/necrosis, iritis.

Skin: Irritation up to severe chemical burn

Ingestion: Depending on the concentration irritation to severe chemical burn of the affected esophageal, gastric and intestinal mucosa (risk of perforation!), cardiac reaction, respiratory distress, acid-base balance disorders, cramps.

Notes to physician / Possible hazards

Deep skin or corneal necrosis, pneumonia, esophageal/gastric perforation, pulmonary edema (up to 2 days latency time).

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Irritation of the skin and mucus membranes can be treated with corticosteroids.

Provided there are no signs of esophageal and gastric perforation, an immediate gastric lavage using a large-bore gastric probe is useful (leave probe until at the hospital). Subsequent admin-istration of charcoal powder useful.

Anti-aspiration prophylaxis possible through early intubation.

With respiratory and pulmonary damages as well as large-area chemical skin burns antibiotic prophylaxis useful.

Treatment of severe chemical burns is the same as with thermal burns.

Treat symptomatically.

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for firefighters

In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Use personal protective equipment.

Additional advice

Use water spray to cool unopened containers.

Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Prevent fire extinguishing water from contaminating surface water or the ground water system.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Ensure adequate ventilation.

Use personal protective equipment.

Evacuate personnel to safe areas.

Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak.

Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes.

Exposure controls

Environmental precautions

Must not get into the soil, sewerage systems and surface water. In the event of contamination, notify the responsible authorities.

Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up

Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, saw-dust).

Treat recovered material as described in the section "Disposal considerations".

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Advice on safe handling

Use only in area provided with appropriate exhaust ventilation.

Handle and open container with care.

Exposure controls

Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the ap-plication area.

Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

Ensure that eye flushing systems and safety showers are located close to the working place.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion

The product should only be used in areas from which all na-ked lights and other sources of ignition have been excluded.

Exposure controls / personal protection

a) Respiratory protection

Should fumes/aerosols arise, wear breathing apparatus with its own separate air supply.

Suitable for use as an emergency mask: Filter Type A

Follow the instructions for use issued by the producer.

b) Hand protection

Protective gloves

Butyl-rubber / Layer thickness 0,6 - 0,8 mm / Break through time > 480 min (level 6) / EN 374

General recommendation:  the usage time for protective gloves is approx. 50% of the breakthrough time measured in the laboratory.
