Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Mortality was 9% in the controls at the end of the study. Mortality in test vessels was corrected for control mortality using Abbot’s correction.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
An assessment of the solid-phase (sediment ) toxicity (10-day LC50) of glycolic acid 70% solution was made using the sediment-dweling amphipod, Corophium volutator (Pallas). A 10-day LC50 of 916 mg/kg dry sediment weight (equivalent to 641mg/kg dry sediment weight) was found with 95% confidence intervals of 512 - 1587 mg/kg dry sediment weight (equivalent to 358.4 – 1111 mg/kg dry sediment weight).
Executive summary:

The acute toxicity of glycolic acid 70% solution to the marine sediment reworker Corophium volutator under static test conditions, was investigated according to the OSPAR 1995: Protocols on Methods for the Testing of Chemicals Used in the Offshore Oil Industry, Part A: Sediment Bioassay Using an Amphipod Corophium sp. Pg 3 – 22. Based on nominal exposure concentrations the 10-day LC50 value for C. volutator exposed to glycolic acid 70% solution was 916 mg/kg sediment dry weight (equivalent to 641 mg/kg sediment dry weight).
