Not toxic
Executive summary:

Studies performed on toxicity to Daphnia magna of pentaerythritol tetranitrate at different concentrations show that caused effects are not associated to the substance, but to the high pH of the solution (>12) resulting from desensitization, which is much higher than environmental.

To determine the effect of the high pH, resulting from the desensitization process, of test materials, bioassays were performed with Daphnia magna and Pimephales promelas exposed to neutralized versus unneutralized materials.

Description of key information

LC50 values obtained from studies performed on toxicity to Daphnia magna of pentaerythritol tetranitrate at different concentrations show that the substance is not toxic. Observed mortality seems to be associated to high pH (>12), resulting from the desensitization process.
