Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Considering toxicity of ethylamine (CAS 75-04-7) to algae a key study with Scenedesmus quadricauda is available. In this study Bringmann and Kuehn (1978) used the toxicity threshold concentration as endpoint. The toxicity threshold may be correlated to the EC3 and was stated as 1.6 mg/L (calculated for the test item purity of 100%, pH-adjusted) after 8 days of exposure.

As a worst-case consideration the determined EC3 of 1.6 mg a.i.)/L was also used as an EC50 value.

In addition, Bringmann (1959) determined the 96-h EC3 to be 10 mg/L in another supporting study (Scenedesmus quadricauda, nominal, test item purity not specified).

Based on the available experimental data, ethylamine (CAS 75-04-7) is considered to be acutely toxic to algae.
