First-aid measures

Eye: Flush immediately with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Eyelids should be held away from the eyeball to ensure thorough rinsing. Get medical assistance.
Skin: Immediately flush the skin with plenty of water while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. If irritation persists get medical attention. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
Inhalation: Remove immediately to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration, preferably mouth-to-mouth. Maintain airway and blood pressure. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Keep affected person calm, warm and at rest. Call a physician.
Ingestion: Wash out mouth with water if the person is conscious and immediately seek medical attention. If medical attention is not immediately available get the affected person to vomit by having him touch the back of the throat with his finger or by giving him large amounts (one pint or more) of warm salt water (two tablespoons of salt per pint of water). Do not make an unconscious person vomit.
Rescue: Move affected person from the hazardous exposure only if you are wearing rescue gear. Do not become a casualty yourself. If person is unconscious notify someone immediately and put into effect the emergency rescue procedure. Known your emergency response procedure and the location of the emergency equipment.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable Extinguishing Media: Use dry chemical powder for small fire, and water spray, fog or foam for large fire. Do not use water jet.
Fire Fighting Procedures: Exposed firefighters must wear certified positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus with full-face mask and full protective clothing. Cool down the containers and equipments exposed to heat with a water spray.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Emits toxic fumes under fire conditions. Flammable in presence of open flames and sparks.
Combustion Products: Irritating or toxic substances may be emitted upon thermal decomposition. Thermal decomposition products may include Carbon oxides, Hydrogen Iodide and Iodine fumes.

Accidental release measures

Small Spills (from a small package or small leak from a large package): Shut off all sources of ignition. Evacuate the area and then protect persons downwind.
Large Spills (from a large package or from many small packages): Evacuate the area and then protect persons downwind.
Wear a self contained breathing apparatus and full disposable body protection. Cover with dry lime or soda ash, pick up, keep in a closed container and hold for waste disposal. Ventilate area and wash spill site after material is pickup.
Personnel not wearing protective equipment should be restricted from areas of spills or leaks until cleanup has been completed. Keep from sewer or water sources.
Prevent entry into sewers, basements or confined areas; dike if needed. Eliminate all ignition sources. Call for assistance on disposal.

Handling and storage

Handling: Wear eye, skin and respiratory protection when handling. Wear fresh clothing daily. Any non-impervious clothing that becomes contaminated with ethyl iodide should be discarded or wash until all traces or ethyl iodide are removed. Do not get in eyes, on skin, on clothing. Do not breathe vapor or mist. Wash thoroughly after handling. Use only with adequate ventilation. Do not eat, drink, or smoke in work area. Avoid prolonged or repeated exposure. If you work with ethyl iodide, you should wash your hands with soap or mild detergent and water prior to eating, smoking or using the toilet facilities.
