Description of key information

There are few long-term fish studies conducted with 1,1,1-trichloroethane. Of the two studies reviewed in the Euro Chlor review conducted for the European Commission and evaluated for risk assessment by De Rooij et al 2004 this is the only study rated as reliable without restriction.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Fresh water fish

Additional information

The conclusions of a risk assessment by De Rooij et al 2004 on studies included in the Euro Chlor review is that as 1,1,-trichloroethane is a non-specific toxicant the results obtained from either fresh or saltwater fish can be used for risk assessment in either compartment. It is therefore possible to conduct a risk assessment based on the value obtained in this study. Using appropriate safety margins it has been concluded that the PEC/PNEC ratio will be acceptable.
