Additional information

Weight of evidence:

Experimental results obtained with the analogues substances Sodium acetate and Potassium acetate.

In the first study, reported by Scholz N (1993), a limit acute toxicity test was performed with Brachydanio rerio treated with Sodium Acetate in a semi-static system. The study was according to OECD guideline 203 and EU Method C.1. Ten animals were exposed per concentration. The 96h-LC50 was greater than 100 mg/L.

The read-across approach was applied and the 96-h LC 50 for the substance Calcium acetate is calculated to be > 96.45 mg/L.

In the second study, reported by Alizada Beslagic (2005), an acute toxicity test for the juvenile Rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss was performed on test substance Safeway KA HOT (50 % water solution of Potassium acetate). Test method was similar to OECD guideline 203. The highest no-observed effect concentration (NOEC) of test substance was 1000 mg/L (for Potassium acetate was 500 mg/L). The 96 hour LC50 - value for test substance was found to be higher than 1000 mg/L (for Potassium acetate was higher than 500 mg/L).

The (96 h) LC 50 for the substance Calcium acetate is calculated to be > 402.92 mg/L, and NOEC is 402.92 mg/L.

The third study, also reported by Alizada Beslagic (2005), was according to PARACOM guideline (modified OECD guideline) with GLP compliance. An actute toxicity test (96 hours semi-static) using the juvenile Cyprinodon variegatus has been performed on Safeway KA HOT (50 % water solution of Potassium acetate). The 96-hourLC50value for Safeway KA HOT was found to be > 1000 mg/L (for Potassium acetate was > 500 mg/L). The NOEC value was estimated to be ca. 1000 mg/L for Safeway KA HOT (ca. 500 mg/L for Potassium Acetate).

The LC 50 for the substance Calcium acetate is calculated to be > 402.92 mg/L, and the NOEC is ca. 402.92 mg/L.

In the last study, reported by Dr. Zok (2005), test method was according to OECD 203.

An actute toxicity test (96 hours static) using the zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio) has been performed with the test substance Safeway KA (50 % water solution of Potassium acetate). The measured 96-hour-LC50value for the test substance was found to be > 992.7mg/L for the substance Safeway KA (> 496.35 mg/L for Potassium Acetate).

The LC 50 for the substance Calcium acetate is calculated to be > 399.98 mg/L.
