Description of key information

A test was conducted according to OECD 218 using Chlorhexidine digluconate as test substance. As Chlorhexidine base is the active component, the results can be converted to equivalents of CHD-Base.
The influence of Chlorhexidin on emergence of midges of the freshwater dipteran Chironomus riparius was investigated following the OECD guideline 218. The NOECs were found to be 2.44 mg CHD-Base/kg dwt for the emergence rate and 8.4 mg CHD-Base/kg dw for the development rate.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10, LC10 or NOEC for freshwater sediment:
2.44 mg/kg sediment dw
