- Details on experimental conditions:
- EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN
- The test systems consisted of 300 mL Erlenmeyer flasks each containing 100 g soil (dry weight equivalents)
- The test vessels were equipped with traps for the collection of carbon dioxide and volatile organic compounds but permeable for oxygen.
- Soil moisture was adjusted to 55 ± 5%
- For acclimation, the test systems were placed in the temperature controlled climatic chamber for 5 days prior to application
- Oxygen conditions: Aerobic
- Light conditions: Dark
- Temperature: mean 20.3 °C (20.0 – 20.9 °C)
- Stock solution: 14C-labeled test item was dissolved in 25 mL acetonitrile resulting in a stock solution containing 4.35 MBq/mL
- The stock solution was stored frozen protected from light
- The test item was applied dropwise onto the soil surface in 390 μl methanol / water 1/1 (v/v).
- Duplicate samples were analyzed 0, 0.08 (2 hours), 0.25 (6 hours), 1, 2, 3, 7, 14, 21, 41, 59, 90 and 120 days after treatment.
- At each sampling interval, the soil was extracted three times by shaking at ambient temperature and once by microwave-accelerated extraction at 70 °C using acetonitrile / water 4/1 (v/v). - Soil No.:

The route and rate of degradation of the test item was studied in four soils under aerobic conditions in the dark in the laboratory for 120 days at 20.3 °C and 55% of the maximum water holding capacity. A study application rate of nominal 267 μg per kg soil dry weight was applied. The results show rapid degradation of the test item in soil under aerobic conditions. The DT50 value in soil ranges (recalculated to 12°C) from 0.6 to 1.1 days. Six degradation products ≥ 10% AR were detected and identified as AE 1887196-dihydro, AE 1887196-oxoacetamide, AE 1887196-O-desmethyl, AE 1887196-di-Odesmethyl, AE 1887196-dihydro-O-desmethyl and AE 1887196-dihydro-di-O-desmethyl. Formation of significant amounts of carbon dioxide demonstrates complete mineralization of the test item.
The route and rate of degradation of the test item was studied in four soils under aerobic conditions in the dark in the laboratory for 126 days at 20.1 °C and 55% of the maximum water holding capacity. A study application rate of nominal 267 μg per kg soil dry weight was applied. The results show rapid degradation of triafamone in soil under aerobic conditions. The DT50 value in soil ranges (recalculated to 12°C) from 0.6 to 1.3 days. Six degradation products ≥ 10% AR were detected and identified as AE 1887196-dihydro, AE 1887196-dihydro-O-desmethyl, AE 1887196-dihydro-di-O-desmethyl, AE 1887196-O-desmethyl, AE 1887196-di-O-desmethyl and AE 1887196-oxoacetamide. Formation of significant amounts of carbon dioxide demonstrates complete mineralization of the test item.
The route and rate of degradation of the test item was studied in three soils under flooded anaerobic conditions in the dark in the laboratory. Following a short aerobic incubation phase in the dark, samples were incubated for a maximum of 122 days at 20.1 °C under anaerobic conditions. The results show rapid degradation of triafamone in soil under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The DT50 value in soil for the anaerobic incubation phase ranges (recalculation to 12°C) from 1.3 to 3.8 days. Four degradation products ≥ 10% were detected and identified as AE 1887196-dihydro, AE 1887196-O-desmethyl, AE 1887196-dihydro-O-desmethyl and AE 1887196-oxazolidine-dione, of which AE 1887196- oxazolidine-dione was formed in the anaerobic incubation phase. The main degradation product AE 1887196-dihydro is steadily degraded under anaerobic conditions.
Description of key information
DT50 = 0.6 - 3.9 days (OECD 307, aerobic and anaerobic conditions, recalculated to 12 °C)
In soil the substance will be degraded within a short time period.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
The route and rate of degradation of triafamone (CAS No. 874195-61-6) was studied in four soils under aerobic conditions and in three soils under flooded anaerobic conditions. The studies conducted according to OECD guideline 307 and GLP in the dark at approximately 20.1 - 20.3 °C. A study application rate of nominal 267μg per kg soil dry weight was applied in the aerobic tests and of 400μg per kg soil dry weight in the anaerobic test. The results show that triafamone degrades fast in soil under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Under aerobic conditions the DT50 value ranges (recalculated to 12 °C) from 0.6 to 1.3 days and under anaerobic conditions the DT50 value ranges (recalculated to 12° C) from 1.3 to 3.9 days. Under aerobic conditions six main degradation products were detected and identified as AE 1887196-dihydro, AE 1887196-oxoacetamide, AE 1887196-O-desmethyl, AE 1887196-di-Odesmethyl, AE 1887196-dihydro-O-desmethyl and AE 1887196-dihydro-di-O-desmethyl. One further degradation product was identified as AE 1887196-oxazolidine-dione, which was formed in the anaerobic incubation phase.
