Acutely toxic to aquatic organisms. The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity of the submission item. Fish turned out to be the most sensitive species revealing an LC50 (96h) of 4 mg/L. Thus, the submission item is considered to be acutely toxic to aquatic organisms. Effects of the submission item towards algae and water flea (Daphnia magna) were less severe providing an ErC50 (72h) of 34 mg/L for algae and an EC50 (48h) of 20 mg/L for water flea. Results from several QSAR estimations using the OECD toolbox and ECOSAR support the conclusion drawn above on the acute aquatic toxicity of the substance.

No data on aquatic long-term toxicity of the submission item are available.

The EC10 value of the test item on activated sludge was found to be 300 mg/L in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 209 (BASF SE 08G0455/11G149, 2012). Hence, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
