Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, a long-term toxicity test with fish (required in section 9.1.6) does not need to be conducted for FeNa-EDDHA as the substance is expected to have a low potential for bioaccumulation (calculated log Koc = -0.203 to -0.247 (estimated with the Kow method, KOCWIN v2.00), BCF = 3.162 L/kg wet-wt (Log BCF = 0.5)). Together with the high water solubility of FeNaEDDHA (≥ 15.0 g/100g < 20.3 g/100g) the substance is expected to be very mobile in the aqueous phase and will not absorb to sediment and soil. Thus, no bioaccumulation in the environment is expected. Acute toxicity studies with three different trophic levels (algae, daphnia and fish) revealing EC50 values over 100 mg/L, show that the substance is non-toxic to aqueous species. In an available long-term toxicity study with daphnia for the read across substance Fe-EDDHMA-Na the results of the acute tests are confirmed with an NOAEL of 320 mg/L. In addition, it could be shown in read across studies with Fe-EDDHMA-Na and Fe-EDDHMA-K that the substance is subject to photolytical degradation. In conclusion, is can be expected that FeNaEDDHA will be degraded photolytically when reaching the surface water. Therefore, no further testing of long-term fish toxicity is needed.
