Description of key information

The flash point of the xylene isomers and ethylbenzene ranges from 18-32˚C. The flash point of m-xylene is 27˚C, o-xylene has a flash point of 32˚C, for p-xylene it is 27˚C and for ethylbenzene it is 18°C. The lowest value of 18˚C will be used for the risk assessment.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
18 °C

Additional information

The Merck Index (O'Neil, 2006) is a peer reviewed handbook and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. The data are supported by results from the CRC Handbook (Lide 2008), which gives flash points for m-xylene, o-xylene, p-xylene and ethylbenzene of 27, 32, 27 and 21°C respectively.
