- Endpoint:
- surface tension
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 1993-12-06 to 1994-04-20
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study with acceptable restrictions
- Remarks:
- The deviation from the guideline has no influence on the result of the study: since the water solubility of the test item is 148 mg/L no 90 % solution was used to determine the surface tension (67.5 mg/L = 46 %). Results were not corrected using the Harkins-Jordan correction table. Since the deviation from the guideline has no influence on the result of the study, this study is used as key study rated with RL2. The test item is considered to be surface active.

- Conclusions:
- According to Council Directive 92/69/EEC A.5 and OECD Guideline 115 (1981), the surface tension of the aqueous solution at 19.5 °C ± 0.5 °C is σ = 53.2 mN/m. Since the surface tension is below 60 mN/m the test item has surface active properties.

Description of key information
The surface tension of the aqueous solution at 20 °C is σ = 53.2 mN/m. Since the surface tension is below 60 mN/m the test item has surface active properties in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Surface tension:
- 53.2
- in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
- 67.5
