Data on aquatic bioaccumulation can be waived in accordance with column 2 of REACH (Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006) Annex IX, stating that the bioaccumulation in aquatic species study (required in section 9.3.2) does not need to be conducted as direct and indirect exposure of the aquatic compartment is unlikely. The substance is a monomer manufactured and used industrially in the production of polymers, plastics (thermoplastics), and polymerization processes, typically being closed processes. At the end of these processes, the monomer is completely transformed into the polymeric matrix and therefore no exposure to the environment is expected.

However, a study with high reliability is available for the substance, showing low aquatic bioaccumulation in both levels of exposure (< 8, < 80). Additionally, data for the next higher homologue substance 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,9,9,10,10,10-heptadecafluorodecyl acrylate as well as for the hydrolysis product of the target chemical 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8 -ridecafluoroocan-1-ol are available as supporting studies, both showing BCF-factor in a similar range. Thus, a potential for significant bioaccumulation can be reliable excluded.
