Description of key information

According to OECD 111 the test item was determined to be hydrolytically unstable at pH 4, 7 and 9 (t½ = 17.59 hours at 10 °C, t½ = 13.25 hours at 25 °C; t½ = 5.96 hours at 50 °C).

As primary degradation product of hydrolysis of 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctyl acrylate, the corresponding alcohol 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctan-1-ol, resulting from ester cleavage was identified.

Although no study for simulation testing in soil for the 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctyl acrylate is available, such a study is available for the 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctan-1-ol, showing that also the alcohol is rapidly degraded by 93.8 – 96.5% within 28 days in soil.

Therefore, simulation testing on ultimate degradation in soil is not proposed by the registrant. Additionally, direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely. The substance is a monomer manufactured and used industrially in the production of polymers, plastics (thermoplastics), and polymerization processes. In accordance with column 2 of REACH (Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006) Annex IX, the soil simulation testing (required in section 9.2.1.4) does not need to be conducted as direct and indirect exposure of sediment is unlikely.
