Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Based on the weight of evidence from studies with linear alpha and linear and branched internal olefins, members of the

category "higher olefins" are not genotoxic.

In vitro (bacterian reverse mutation, chromosome aberration, transformation, and UDS) and in vivo studies (mammalian erythrocyte micronucleus test - oral and dermal) provide evidence that C10 -C13 olefins, C12 -C16 olefins, 1 -Hexadecene, and 1 -Octadecene are not genotoxic.

Further in vitro (inclusive mammalian cell gene mutation assay) and in vivo tests conducted with C6 -C24 olefins showed negative results to (weakly positvie results were seen in an in vivo micronucleus test via the oral route with C6 internal olefins at 5 g/kg; but this compound was negative when repeated via the inhalation route at 1057 ppm).

Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)
