Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
20 Jun - 31 Jul 2001
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.12 (Flammability (Contact with Water))
Version / remarks:
92/69
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)

The test was performed according to guideline 92/69/EEC A.12  for
Determination of flammability in case of contact with water or moist air.
Stage 1
The test substance was added to a dish containing distilled water.
No formation of reaction gases was observed. Attempts to ignite the gas phase above the
dish with the flame of a burner produced negative results.
Stage 2
The test substance was introduced to a filter paper floating on the surface of the destilled
water contained in a dish.
No formation of reaction gases was observed. Attempts to ignite the gas phase above the
filter paper produced negative results.
A few drops of water were added to a sample of the test substance.
No formation of reaction gases was observed. Ignition attempts of the gas phase produced
negative results.
Water (ca. 20 ml) was added from a dropping funnel to the quantities of test substance
specified below. One test run was performed.
No formation of reaction gases was observed. The substance does not emit flammable gases on contact
with water.

The report shall include the results of the tests (steps 1, 2, 3 and 4) and the chemical identity of gas evolved.

All test results are reported. No gas evolved.

Yes

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The substance did not emit ignitabie gases on contact with water.
Executive summary:

The GLP study was performed according to guideline 92/69/EEC A.12. The substance did not emit ignitabie gases on contact with water.
