Description of key information

The test material has been reported as explosive, using data from a weight of evidence and oxygen balance calculations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
explosive

Additional information

This endpoint has been addressed on a weight of evidence basis providing the information from three company MSDS where the explosively limits have been reported as LEL between 1.15% and 1.2% and UEL between 12.36% and 12.4%. Additionally in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 Annex 1, 2.1.4.3 and the Transport of Dangerous Goods UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Appendix VI, 3.3 (2009) a substance with an oxygen balance < -200 would be classed as explosive. The calculated oxygen balance for the test material is approximately -456.48.

Thus in accordance with the available data and calculated oxygen balance the test material is considered to be explosive.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on an assessment of the oxygen balance the test material, explosivity is expected. However it is not possible to assign the correct category for classification under either Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC.
