Details on inhalation exposure:
GENERATION OF TEST ATMOSPHERE / CHAMBER DESCRIPTION
Concentrated vapour is generated in a gas washing bottle by passing dried air at 2.5 l/min through a fritted glass disc immersed to a depth of at least 1 -1/2 inches in the chemical which is delivered to rats in a 9-litre glass exposure chambre. Mean vapour concentration is calculated from the loss in weight of the liquid or estimated from the vapour pressure at the actual temperature of the chemical during aeration.

Vapor dynamically generated at 21C, chamber temperature at 23C.
Analytical verification of test atmosphere concentrations:
no
Duration of exposure:
8 h
Concentrations:

Any other information on results incl. tables

No hazard is anticipated from the infrequent inhalation of substantially saturated vapour generated at room temperature under normal handling conditions.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
study cannot be used for classification
Conclusions:
In a non-guideline / pre-GLP study, no deaths were reported in rats (species, gender not specified) exposed for 8 hours to substantially saturated vapour of 3-(triethoxysilyl)propanethiol. The reliability of the study is considered not assignable (reliabilty score 4) due insufficient documentation.
