Description of key information

LC50 (96 h) > 0.014 mg/L (measured concentration) based on mortality. No effects up to the limit of water solubility (<0.02 mg/L).

Additional information

The acute toxicity of 2 -Hexyl-2 '-hydroxy-5 'methyldecananilide (AF-654) to fish was determined in a study by de Roode (2004). This test was conducted according to EU Method C.1 and OECD Guideline 203 under GLP conditions. During the study, a limit test was performed under static conditions. Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) were exposed for 96 hours to a filtered solution prepared at 100 mg/L nominal concentration. A verification of test concentration was performed by HPLC analysis. No mortality or other adverse effects could be observed at the end of the exposure period. Therefore, a LC50 value could not be calculated and it is considered to be > 0.014 mg/L (measured concentration). In addition, a LC50 > 100 mg/L based on the nominal test concentration of the test substance in a filtered solution is assumed and reported in the study summary.

In conclusion, AF-654 was considered to be not acutely toxic to fish under the tested conditions. No effects of the substance were observed up to the water solubility limit of the test substance (<0.02 mg/L).
