In the investigation of self-ignition in the Grewer oven, the pure test item showed an endothermic effect in the temperature range of 100 - 120°C. No exothermic effects were observed until the maximum test temperature of 415 °C. After the measurement, the basket was empty.

For the test item in mixture with Kieselguhr an endothermic effect was observed in the temperature range of 100 – 120 °C. Additionally, an exothermic effect was detected at a temperature of approx. 370 °C, which led to a maximum temperature of approx. 500 °C.

Results of the Grewer oven experiment:

- pure test item:no self-heating at at mospheric pressure in the Grewer Oven; cf. figures 1, 2)

- test item in mixture with Kieselguhr (1:1): approx. 370°C onset self-ignition (max. temperature: 500°C; cf. figures 1, 2)
